Ozone is used in the treatment of wastewater that contains excessive concentrations of industrial by-products and that is too polluted for conventional wastewater treatment processes, especially for biological treatment. Conventional wastewater treatment processes are not able to purify all pesticides, organic matter, and odour in the wastewater. Therefore, ozone systems provide additional wastewater treatment and improves the regular process.
Wastewater ozonation has several other benefits, such as increased dissolved oxygen for bacterial activity in the biological treatment process, reduced chemical oxygen demand, and improved aesthetic properties – reduced turbidity and colour. Ozone does not leave any harmful residues in the water because unused dissolves quickly back into oxygen.
