Ozone has been used for many years to purify drinking water and improve its properties. Conventional water purification filters remove only mechanical particles from the water, so additional water purification equipment is often required. Ozone effectively kills viruses, bacteria, fungi, and other pathogens in water. Ozonation also improves the smell of water, increases transparency and, unlike chlorine, does not form chlorinated by-products. Water ozonation can be applied in drinking water treatment factories facilities as well as companies that use water in their production processes, for example, washing the equipment and products, or to reuse the water.

Ozone is used in the treatment of wastewater that contains excessive concentrations of industrial by-products and that is too polluted for conventional wastewater treatment processes, especially for biological treatment. Conventional wastewater treatment processes are not able to purify all pesticides, organic matter, and odour in the wastewater. Therefore, ozone systems provides additional wastewater treatment and improves the regular process.
